FAIR MINISTRY

Teaming up with churches, we reach thousands of children at county fairs, festivals, plowing matches, and biker conventions. Clowns and puppets invite children to hear Bible stories and to have their faces painted with Wordless Book colours.

Motorcycle Event in Port Dover

Every time the calendar flips over to a FRIDAY the THIRTEENTH, thousands of motor bikers make a 'pilgrimage' to the Lake Erie town of Port Dover. The population swells from its normal 5,000 to about 100,000! Concession booths and beer tents rival the bikes themselves as the main tourist attractions.

CEFOntario workers and volunteers partner with the International Christian Bikers' Association, the Gideons, and other Christian groups to share the gospel with those who will listen. We are located in the gazebo in the center of the park on the main street.

The evening before, several people were involved in a prayer walk around the main streets of the town, and then a prayer meeting in the gazebo. Around the world many of you were praying for the Christian outreach that would be going on.

Then on Friday, CEFOntario staff member Vance Sutherland, and retired CEF missionary Marilyn Vanderlip, and volunteer Bonnie Klein were stationed behind the gazebo with paints, paintbrushes, and prize packs. CEF staff member Mary Anne Pirie donned the big, pink bunny suit to attract the attention of everyone passing by, inviting them to have their faces (or hands!)painted.

As they painted, they shared the gospel using the paint colours of the Wordless Book. Because of the many prayers that were going up on their behalf, most of the children, teens and adults listened carefully to what they were hearing.

Soon after we were set up, a young lady, perhaps in her twenties, wanted a bike painted on her neck! She listened carefully as Vance shared the gospel, and said something about her lifestyle being one that certainly didn't include God. Some of her friends came along and were making rude comments, but she continued to listen and took the followup material! A Divine appointment!

Note especially the first picture in the row above. This child has just heard the gospel as her face was painted. The insignia on the man's shirt indicates he is a member of the Hell's Angels! What a unique opportunity for ministry! A Divine appointment!

In the 7 hours we were there, we shared the gospel personally with 146 people. Although there were no recorded salvation decisions, the seed of the Word of God was planted in many hearts. All over Port Dover, and far beyond, Mailbox Club registration forms, website and Tell-A-Story invitations, and gospel tracts have made their way into homes. Please pray that these will spark an interest and the message will go on... and on... and on...!
