Don’t Let Your Belt Snap

The silence rang above the sound of the tractor engine. The mower blades are noisy, so when they quit, it was obvious. Why they quit was less obvious.

I drove back to the house and when we checked to see what was going on we discovered that the mower drive belt, the belt that connects the mower blades to the tractor engine and makes them spin, had broken.

The blades were fine, but they couldn’t move. The tractor still drove, but it was useless.

Here’s the parable: You are the tractor. God is the mower deck. The belt is prayer, your connection to Him.

Sometimes we act as though the belt is not needed. We think that because we are still moving and we still know God, we’re okay. But if we are not daily spending time with God in prayer connected to Him, we are useless.

Jesus said, for apart from Me you can do nothing. John 15:5b NLT

Let that sink in for a minute. Do you want your life to make a difference? The only way is to stay connected to Jesus. Reading God’s Word and talking with Him every single day is essential to connect with Him and make a lasting difference.

Without that connection we are like my mower without the belt, driving around looking busy but accomplishing nothing.

Anyone who does not remain in Me is thrown away like a useless branch and withers. Such branches are gathered into a pile to be burned. But if you remain in Me and My Words remain in you, you may ask for anything you want, and it will be granted! John 15:6-7 NLT
