Keep on Trusting!
This past year has been filled with questions. In a world where things change from day to day, all our plans were suspended, and we didn’t even know what would happen tomorrow.
In speaking to several students recently I was encouraged to hear how this past year gave them time to reflect. They reflected on who God is. They drew near to Him. They learned to trust Him when everything around them crumbled.
Our sense of security and comfort from knowing what will happen tomorrow was shattered. And God used that to show us that we were depending on the wrong thing.
The truth is, we have no less assurance of tomorrow now, than we did before the pandemic.
How do you know what your life will be like tomorrow? .... What you ought to say is, “If the Lord wants us to, we will live and do this or that.” Otherwise you are boasting about your own pretentious plans, and all such boasting is evil. James 4:13-16 NLT
The sense of security that we found in our plans was always false, but now we are experiencing it. Now we see how dependent we are on the God who holds the future in His hands.
Look back over the last year. Where have you seen God that you might have missed before? How have you relied on Him more than you used to? What has He taught you? Write down how you saw God work through the pandemic.
And when it’s over, don’t forget what He’s done and go back to worrying about tomorrow. Instead, let this experience shape your future. And know that you can continue to trust that your future is in God’s hands and no matter what happens you will not be shaken.
I pray that God, the source of hope, will fill you completely with joy and peace because you trust in Him. Then you will overflow with confident hope through the power of the Holy Spirit. Romans 15:13 NLT
